Supporting a Fast-Paced Residential Development
In 2020, Countryside Partnerships launched the Baberton Grange development, a large-scale housing project on Plough Hill Road, Nuneaton. The project aimed to deliver modern homes efficiently using timber frame construction, a method that speeds up build times but presents unique scaffolding challenges.
To keep up with the fast-paced build schedule, we were brought in to provide a reliable, adaptable scaffolding system that allowed contractors to work safely and efficiently at height.
Challenges and Requirements
1. Working with Timber Frame Construction
Timber-framed buildings require a scaffolding system that provides stability without restricting construction progress. The structure must support multiple trades working simultaneously while allowing for adjustments as the build progresses.
2. Complex House Types
The development included a variety of house designs, meaning the scaffolding setup had to be flexible. Some house types had awkward access points, making standard scaffolding configurations unsuitable.
3. Fast Build Programme
With cranes booked in advance for lifting roof trusses and other structural components, scaffolding needed to be installed and dismantled quickly to keep up with the project’s timeline. Delays in scaffolding could have caused knock-on effects for other trades on-site.
Our Scaffolding Solution
To meet these challenges, we implemented Layher system scaffolding, chosen for its speed, adaptability, and safety.
- Fast Assembly and Dismantling: The modular Layher system allowed us to install and remove scaffolding efficiently, keeping up with the rapid build schedule.
- Safe and Stable Work Platforms: The scaffolding provided secure access for workers installing cladding, roofing, and other façade elements.
- Adaptable Configurations: With different house designs across the site, we adjusted the scaffolding setup as needed to accommodate each building’s unique requirements.
Meeting Tight Time Constraints
The project operated on a strict schedule, with scaffolding required at specific points to align with the crane lift programme. To ensure smooth progress, we worked closely with site managers and contractors, delivering scaffolding on time and removing it as soon as it was no longer needed.
By maintaining close coordination with other trades, we prevented any bottlenecks, allowing the build to move forward without unnecessary delays.
